Bike lanes have been installed on a section of Parade Street in Yarmouth.
After the sewer separation project was completed last month, workers painted the lanes on both sides of the street yesterday.
This means no parking where the lanes have been added from Pleasant Street to Second Street.
Mayor Pam Mood says one business has reached out with parking concerns, and that issue is being dealt with.
“The beautiful thing about just putting paint on, is that if there are issues, we can go back and re-visit them. That’s exactly what council is going to do, take another look and make sure we have it right. We are listening,” says Mood.
The town says the lanes are the start of a bike lane network on some arterial and collector streets wide enough to support them, and this falls within their active transportation master plan.
Mood says the excitement is unbelievable, and it’s the right thing to do for the community.
“It’s not that we expect to have thousands of bikers, it’s that we’re trying to encourage active living. We’re trying to create a town where all those things are possible.”
