The Royal Canadian Legion’s annual Poppy Campaign kicks off today.
Sales from poppies and wreaths help veterans in need and their families.
Ken Dennis is chair of the Poppy Campaign at Branch 61 in Yarmouth.
He says rolling out the campaign is a lot a work.
“We canvassed town businesses to see if they’d allow poppy boxes in their stores. We also asked if they wanted to purchase a wreath to display in their storefront. Legion volunteers completed this work,” says Dennis.
Dennis says all the wreaths will be picked up before November 11th for the Mariners Centre ceremony.
He asks any volunteers who wish to help sell poppies at various locations to contact the legion.
Dennis says wearing a poppy also honours those who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country.
