50 banners bearing the names of Yarmouth’s veterans have been installed along Main Street.
The program is a partnership between the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 61 and the Town of Yarmouth.
Chair of the legion’s Poppy Campaign Ken Dennis says the project was spearheaded by Todd Muise, the Supervisor of Parks for the town.
“And he approached the legion to see if we would help subsidize the cost. These banners are purchased by the families of the veterans, and we helped to defray the cost, as well as the Town of Yarmouth,” says Dennis.
Dennis says the banners have exceeded his expectations.
“They’re just lovely. Unfortunately we can’t get more than 50 up this year. I know the program is going to run for three years, and they’re going to go from there. It may change, depending on the interest.”
The legion’s Poppy Campaign begins on Friday.
Ceremonies on Remembrance Day in the town will be held at the Cenotaph and at the Mariners Centre.
