The Yarmouth Mariners picked up three of a possible four points in a pair of home games on the weekend.
On Friday, Yarmouth got by Grand Falls 3-2 thanks to a late goal from Reilly Mayne.
Saturday, Edmundston tied the game late and then beat Yarmouth in overtime 3-2.
Speaking after Saturday’s game, Mariners Head Coach and Laurie Barron said they battled hard against the Blizzard.
“I honestly feel better about tonight than I did after our win (over Grand Falls.) That’s a good hockey club we played. We had them, but they found a way to tie it and win it in OT. That was a great hockey game, biggest crowd of the year and they saw a dandy,” says Barron.
918 were in attendance Saturday night.
Mayne is leading the league in goals with 11 after scoring three times in the two games.
Barron says Mayne he’s earning it.
“He’s got a gift around the net. Big strong kid that finds pucks and gets them through the back of the net. He’s off to a great start.”
The Mariners have points in five straight games.
A busy week coming up for Yarmouth, as they head to Pictou Thursday night before playing the Ramblers and Capitals at home Friday and Saturday.
