Beautiful displays of flowers have earned the Town of Yarmouth a national award.
The ‘Plant and Floral Displays Award’ was given at the Communities in Bloom Virtual Symposium last week.
Chair of the town’s local Communities in Bloom committee Heather Hatfield says it’s the result of hard work.
“Listening to the judges when they come to town, they look at our climate and what will and won’t work. They give us advice, and we try to follow it to the best of our ability. It’s definitely paying off,” says Hatfield.
Hatfield thanks the town’s parks staff, the Yarmouth Garden Club and all the volunteers that have put in endless hours to make this possible.
She says growing flower displays in a seaside town can be challenging, and the town was judged against some of the best growing regions in the country.
She encourages citizens to take on a garden in the area next summer.
“Anybody who would like to take on a garden. It doesn’t have to be a big garden, it can just be a small one, but anything helps. We get a great response from the flowers, people will stop and notice how nice it looks. That’s what we want, for people to enjoy them.”
