The Yarmouth Whitecaps are preparing to return to Main Street.
When Mariners on Main opens next month, the swim team plans to be back in the pool they’ve called home for decades.
Head Coach Alix d’Entremont says it means a lot to be back in Yarmouth and be operating at full capacity.
“It will probably help us get new swimmers in the program, and there will be less stress on the existing swimmers. We should have a smoother season this year, hopefully,” says d’Entremont.
Last season, the Whitecaps saw membership drop from 30 to 16 members, with long commutes to Clare and only two days of training, down from the usual six.
In June, the Whitecaps were recognized with the ‘Sport Makes A Difference’ award through Support 4 Sport for their perseverance in losing the YMCA, and through the pandemic.
d’Entremont says registration for kids aged eight and up begins on Monday at 7 p.m. at the YACRO hub on Queen Street.
“The kids that are coming back are very excited. There will be lots of pool time, we can’t wait to get started.”
