Yarmouth municipal council would like to see increased safety measures at John’s Cove beach in Cape Forchu.
It’s a renewed call, after a child drifted out to sea on an inflatable tube in the area last month.
The child was eventually rescued by good Samaritans in a nearby boat.
Warden John Cunningham says a letter will be sent to the province.
“Asking them who is responsible for the beach. Staff will decide on if the letter will go to Natural Resources or Fisheries, but we need to find out who is ultimately responsible for that beach,” says Cunningham.
He says hundreds of families use John’s Cove beach in the summertime, and it’s currently not supervised by lifeguards.
“The Municipality, council and residents are very concerned at things that could, and already have happened out there.”
Council will also issue a certificate of appreciation to the good Samaritans for their heroic act in saving the child.
The CAO will also provide a briefing note to better inform council on safety issues at the beach.
