The Town of Yarmouth’s Special Election is this Saturday.
Three people are running for a vacant seat on council, and we’re talking about each of them this week.
Belle Hatfield is a former reporter and covered council for many years with the Vanguard.
She says she has a passion for her community.
“We need solid leadership that is steady, reliable, and operates as a team. I hope that I can be part of that team to help move the town forward,” says Hatfield.
Hatfield, who ran as an Independent in the 2010 provincial by-election, says she would help the town grab any opportunities it could coming out of the pandemic.
She says the completion of the housing project at the old high school is something she’d be advocating for at the council table.
“We need to partner with private industry, as towns are not in the position to create housing themselves, they have to partner with the industry and the provincial and federal governments to get the job done. I want to make sure the old high school project gets across the finish line.”
The other candidates are Don Berry and Tim Clayton.
Voting can be done online, over the phone, or in person during business hours at the Returning Office at Town Hall.
