In a release late yesterday, the Sipekne’katik First Nation says AFN Chief RoseAnne Archibald witnessed first hand Department of Fisheries and Oceans enforcement on the water.
They say officers detained two Sipekne’katik boats, and seized several lobster traps off Saulnierville.
The release says the community members were fishing with food, social and ceremonial tags, and were in compliance with DFO and the community’s fisheries management plans.
The band says the tags were numbered less than 1000, all of which are in compliance.
They say no reason was given for the seizure on site.
We’ve reached out to DFO for comment.
