The first cuts were made at Yarmouth Mariners training camp over the weekend.
12 players were sent back to their U18 teams after a pair of inter-squad games.
Head Coach and GM Laurie Barron says there are four goaltenders, seven defenders and 14 forwards left in camp.
“We want to make sure that we do our due diligence. We have some exhibition games coming up this weekend, and we want to get some guys in and give them a look there. I think in the next week and a half, we’ll be down to 22-23 players on the roster,” says Barron.
Barron expects to dress a younger line-up in the teams exhibition game on Friday night in the Valley, before playing a more veteran squad on Saturday night at home against the Lumberjacks.
“I’m really excited about our hockey club. Our goaltending looks great, our back-end is strong with good, mobile defensemen. We’ve got a good mix of veteran and young players up front that I think are going to be very exciting.”
The Mariners open the regular season on October 1st.
