The Wedgeport Tuna Tournament and Festival looked a little different this year.
However, organizers are still calling it a big success.
President Brandon Doucette says there were 112 participants on 16 boats.
“It’s one of the biggest events in our community, and people look forward to it every year. It was definitely nice to be able to at least have some parts of it, and everyone was really excited,” says Doucette.
Results are in from this year’s tournament. The heaviest bluefin tuna was reeled in by the crew of the Row Row, weighing in at 709 lbs. The heaviest bluefin from the Hell Hole was brought in by the Knotical-X-Ta-Sea and weighs in at 346 lbs. The heaviest overall weight came from the Robyn Jade, with a total weight of 1,688 lbs.
The weigh-ins, Tuna Pageant and other events were held virtually this year, with livestreaming.
Doucette says they hope to get back to normal in 2022, but they’ll still livestream the weigh-ins.
“We couldn’t have things like food or the dance, but on the fishing side, it was one of the most successful years we’ve had on the water. All of the boats caught tuna.”
He thanks all the volunteers, sponsors and community for helping the tournament return, after COVID wiped out the 2020 event.
