For the first time, a woman has been elected MLA for Digby-Annapolis.
Progressive Conservative Jill Balser won the riding in Tuesday night’s provincial election.
She defeated Liberal Jimmy MacAlpine by 798 votes after the unofficial count.
Her father, former Digby-Annapolis MLA Gordon Balser, was her campaign manager.
She says there was no one else she’d rather have in that role.
“He is so good at what he does. It gave me a better understanding and appreciation of the type of MLA he was, and the experience we had together is what I want to bring to the role now as the elect,” says Balser.
Balser says problems in the healthcare system was the main issue she heard from constituents while campaigning, and that the PC’s have a solid plan to fix it.
She says she also heard it was time for change, and there was a lot of excitement about her as a candidate.
“A lot of people said Jill, it’s time. We want to see better, we want to see a change. I really felt that at the doorstep of the constituents.”
