Canada’s Liberal leader says the country condemns the ongoing violence in Afghanistan.
Media reports said several people died Monday at the Kabul airport as Afghans try to flee the Taliban.
Speaking Monday during a campaign stop in Quebec, Trudeau said Canada is working with its allies on the current security situation in the country.
“We have Canadian Armed Forces assets deployed in the region staging out of Kuwait, including aircraft,” said Trudeau.
Trudeau noted that there are also soldiers on the ground helping to secure the airport in Kabul.
Canada is working to ensure they are resettling as many of the 20,000 Afghan refugees they will be welcoming as quickly as possible, he said.
“At least 807 Afghans have been evacuated to date, and over 500 have already arrived in Canada,” said Trudeau.
