The Town of Yarmouth will explore moving to a four-day work week option for non-union employees.
It was discussed at yesterday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.
The policy would increase hours of operation at town hall, as staff would be split into two groups, Monday to Thursday and Tuesday to Friday.
Mayor Pam Mood says other municipalities have adopted this policy.
“Right now, we’ve just asked staff to draft a policy to see how this is being done in other municipalities. It will then come back to the council table, and we’ll take it from there,” says Mood.
She says this could make town hall an even more desirable place to work, and allow for longer retention of workers.
“I believe it would draw more people in for staffing purposes, and it would allow staff more time off with family, and enhance quality of life.”
Municipalities in Digby and Guysborough have adopted the policy, and have praised the work model’s success.
