Work will soon resume on the refurbishment of the Tusket Falls Main Dam.
This means water levels will be lowered to their natural levels at the Lake Vaughan reservoir, as well as Kings and Gavel lakes.
Nova Scotia Power has notified property owners in the area that the work to upgrade the hydro system to modern standards will begin the week of July 26th.
NS Power Senior Communications Advisor Jacqueline Foster says it will take about ten days to lower the water levels.
“It will remain at its natural level through mid-February while this work is done. We’re encouraging homeowners to get their docks and boats out of the water to avoid any damage during this work,” said Foster.
If all goes according to plan, the water will need to be lowered again around the same time next year.
Foster says they’re working with the Mi’kmaw community to preserve and protect any artifacts that may be revealed during the lowering.
A virtual information session is also being planned ahead of construction for local residents.
