The Island Traps Sherose Island Schooners played four games on the road this past weekend in Nova Scotia Intermediate Baseball League action.
They split a doubleheader with Amherst on Saturday, winning the first game 7-4. Jeff Ross was two for three with 2 RBI, Tristan Reede went five and two/third innings on the mound, allowing four hits and four earned runs. Stefan Newell took over in the sixth, getting the win in giving up two hits and striking out one.
The second game, Amherst won 2-0 as Justyn Newell went two for three, Jeff Ross pitched a complete game, giving up just four hits with five strikeouts.
On Sunday, Sherose Island dropped both games to the Pictou Albions, losing the opening contest 9-6. Tristan Reede was the top hitter with two singles and four RBI. Justyn Newell pitched seven innings, giving up seven earned runs on nine hits. He struck out 10.
In the second game, the Albions got a walk-off 3-2 win in the bottom of the seventh with a base hit after the Schooners tied the game in the top of the sixth. Justyn Newell was two for three with an RBI. Stefan Newell pitched a complete game, giving up three runs on nine hits, striking out three.
The Schooners, who lead the league with a 3-3 record, return home to face Truro this Sunday for a doubleheader.
