Fire displaced several tenants of a two storey building in Yarmouth.
Last night around 10:30, the Yarmouth Fire Department were called to the scene at the corner of Willow and John Streets, and asked the public to avoid an ‘active incident’ in the area.
There were no injuries reported.
The Canadian Red Cross says volunteers assisted a man from one unit with emergency lodging and meals. He has since been allowed to return home.
They also assisted an adult couple and two children from the fire-damaged unit with emergency lodging and financial assistance to buy food, clothing and other essential items.
The fire started in a kitchen of one of the apartments, resulting in significant damage to the unit and minimal water and smoke damage throughout the rest of the building, says Yarmouth Fire Chief Mike Deveau.
He says career staff and volunteers arrived quickly and were able to extinguish the fire within minutes.
