The Acadia First Nation and many members of the community walked yesterday, and reflected peacefully.
They remembered and honoured Indigenous children who lost their lives at residential schools, and those who survived.
The walk began at the band office and went to the RCMP grounds.
They drummed their honour song before returning to the Rose Purdy Community Field.
There was also a sacred fire, round circle and silent reflection.
Normally, Canada Day celebrations would have been held, but the Town of Yarmouth declared it a ‘Day of Reflection.’
The Municipality of Yarmouth followed suit, by giving free mini-tours of the Climb the Light experience at Cape Forchu.
The tours gave citizens the perfect vantage point to view the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq People, pause for reflection, and to pay respects.
