Water has been put back in the pool at the former YCMA building in Yarmouth.
The facility, which closed near the start of the pandemic, is targeting a September re-opening under the new name ‘Mariners on Main.’
The Town and Municipality of Yarmouth and the Municipality of Argyle each have contributed $75,000 towards the re-opening.
The Mariners Centre will operate the facility to ‘bridge the gap’ until expansion can take place.
Mariners Centre CEO Dorgam Hideib says water in the pool is a great step.
“I know there are a lot of folks in the community that should feel very proud about this. Many reached out and said they couldn’t go without a pool. We are one step closer to having it re-opened.”
Hideib says a lot of work has been done on the pool already thanks to the town’s engineer and local contractors.
He says it was important to make sure the pool was re-filled as quickly as possible.
“We needed to make sure we were testing everything to make sure it was intact, and the testing of all the mechanics needed to be done. So far, so good.”
Hideib says there as much as people want to jump in, there is still a great deal of work to do.
