A heat warning is in effect for Southwestern Nova Scotia.
Temperatures today with the humidex could reach 38 degrees in Yarmouth, Shelburne and Digby counties.
The maximum temperature tonight could be 20 degrees, and then back up to between 36 and 39 tomorrow with the humidex.
Environment Canada says extreme heat affects everyone, and the risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, the elderly, people with chronic illness or people working or exercising outdoors.
Tips on how to avoid heat-related illnesses: drink plenty of water, stay in the shade, take frequent breaks when working outside, wear lightweight, light coloured clothing.
Remember never to leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, and to check in on elderly neighbours and others vulnerable to the heat.
The humid temperatures are expected to break on Wednesday.
