Yarmouth’s Allie Munroe is headed to the National Women’s Hockey League next season.
The defender signed with the Connecticut Whale recently.
Munroe, who played in Sweden last year, says she spoke with some NWHL teams previously.
“Connecticut is a really great fit for me. They have great coaches, and the organization as well. I’m really looking forward to it, I’m very happy.”
Munroe says she’ll head to Connecticut in the fall, in the meantime she’ll keep training through the summer.
She says she’s excited to play in the U.S. again, where she played for Syracuse in the NCAA.
Munroe says she’s hopeful the women’s game will continue to grow.
“Hopefully we can start making highlights on TSN, people can get to know players more, and hopefully everyone, including my friends and family in Yarmouth can watch.”
Munroe came back to Canada in April, and attended the Women’s World Hockey Championship selection camp roster in Halifax.
She adds that even though she didn’t crack Team Canada’s roster, she’s excited to watch the tournament, which has been re-scheduled for Calgary this August.
