Despite the pandemic, Nova Scotia’s film industry is going to have a busy year.
NBC’s ‘The Sinner’ is currently filming on the South Shore, and will continue to do so for the next few months.
Screen Nova Scotia Executive Director, Laura Mackenzie said the economic benefits are immeasurable, especially during the pandemic.
“These are millions and millions of production dollars that are going into the small businesses that need them the most right now and creating jobs when so many have been lost,” Mackenzie said. “All of this is just so incredibly important right now”
Mackenzie believes that when these shows are put on the international stage, it not only boosts our tourism message and opportunity, but it instills confidence in Nova Scotia.
“Everybody in Nova Scotia wants to see their home province and the places they love being celebrated by an international audience”
She said in addition to the filming of ‘The Sinner’, there are many other projects to look forward to.
“We’ve got a couple of shows similar to the size and scope of ‘The Sinner’ that are going to be filming in Nova Scotia this year,” Mackenzie explained. “We are also going to have a number of shows that are domestic, locally created Nova Scotia shows and that is equally as exciting”
Mackenzie expects we will find out what those two larger scale shows are around July.
