Tax rates remain the same in the Municipality of the District of Yarmouth.
At last night’s council meeting, it was confirmed the rates of $1.18 per $100 of assessment for residential, and $2.17 per $100 for commercial would stay put.
Warden John Cunningham says council didn’t feel it was prudent to raise taxes in a pandemic.
“There are many struggles in the current lockdown for residents. There’s a lot of uncertainly on what’s going on, so we felt it wasn’t prudent to raise taxes this year.”
The total budget comes in at just over $13.3 million, with $6.5 in capital investments planned over the next three to five years.
There is a small surplus of $15,000.
Cunningham says the budget features an additional $150,000 to include the ‘Mariners on Main’ project, and an increase of about $14,000 for Yarmouth County Ground Search and Rescue.
