Standard COVID-19 testing is expanding in Yarmouth.
The Mariners Centre joins the Visitor Information Centre as locations offering symptomatic and asymptomatic testing.
The site is accepting walk-ins for today. Health and Wellness Minister and Yarmouth MLA Zach Churchill says that the site has been added to the online test booking webpage, appointments will need to be booked starting tomorrow.
“These are not pop-up rapid tests, but standardized tests that people will have to book appointments for. We’re recognizing that there’s an increase in demand for testing, which is very good, because testing is one of our greatest tools in the fight against COVID-19.”
A trial run with walk-in testing was also held at the Mariners Centre last night.
Churchill says appointments have been filling up not just at the Visitor Information Centre, but around the province, and that’s why they’re expanding standard testing in many regions.
He says in the first wave, the province was only able to conduct 2500 tests a day, now they have capacity to perform over 20,000 a day. for when testing at the Mariner’s Centre moves to appointment only.
