A section of Highway 103 near Argyle could soon see construction work.
Exit 32 has long been considered dangerous, as a sharp right turn is required off a two-lane, 100 km/h highway onto Nakile Drive, which leads to a nursing home.
PC MLA for Argyle-Barrington Colton LeBlanc recently questioned Transportation Minister Lloyd Hines about the project.
LeBlanc says he was pleased to learn it’s in the top three of major projects in the planning stages.
“As the department gets the go-ahead to add projects to their highway plan, I am hoping sooner rather than later to see this project incorporated.”
LeBlanc says land is being purchased by the province to allow the project to move forward, and the design is nearing completion.
He says this is long overdue as there are several safety concerns in the area.
“Everyday, there’s a risk to the safety of commuters. There’s a nursing home and a P-12 school in the area, and residents that use that intersection on a daily basis. Too often we hear about near misses.”
The project is expected to cost $30 million.
