An operating budget of $3.84 million was approved last week by Shelburne town council.
Tax rates are high, but didn’t go up. They remain $2.06 per $100 of assessment for residential, and $3.88 per $100 for commercial.
The capital budget is nearly $353,000.
Mayor Harold Locke says the financial state of the town is improving.
“We made some serious cuts, we had to make them because of our financial situation. It’s turned into a surplus for us, so we’re pleased with that.”
The surplus comes after an audit of the 2020-21 fiscal year, and will be transferred into the town’s reserves.
Mayor Locke says priorities for this year include financial stability, and repairs to a daycare in town.
Nearly $37,000 has been approved for grants to organizations, and the low income tax exemption remains the same.
