A hockey player from Yarmouth is living a childhood dream.
Allie Munroe is taking part in Team Canada’s National Women’s hockey selection camp ahead of the IIHF Women’s World Hockey Championship next month in Halifax.
Munroe, who’s been playing professional hockey overseas in Sweden this season, arrived in Canada a few weeks ago, and has been quarantining.
She says she’s grateful for this chance.
“Being from Nova Scotia and the fact that the tournament is here, I was excited just to get the opportunity to make the team. To be part of this group is incredible. I’m just going to give it my best, leave nothing on the table and see where it takes me.”
Munroe says she’ll be hitting the ice in Halifax over the next few days for some inter-squad games, before the team is officially named.
47 players are in camp, including two other Nova Scotians: Halifax’s Jill Saulnier and Stellarton’s Blayre Turnbull.
Munroe says she looks up to them.
“They’ve paved the way for so many of us. To be added to that list would be incredible. I know in Yarmouth, a lot of people are rooting for me. It would be very special.”
The tournament takes place May 6-16 at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax and the Rath Eastlink Community Centre in Truro.
