A house fire in the Town of Yarmouth overnight.
The Yarmouth fire department responded to the blaze around 12:30 a.m. on Waverly Street.
Acting Chief Mike Deveau says the fire was contained to the basement.
“Dispatched our career staff and volunteers, when they got on scene, they were met with heavy smoke in the dwelling.”
Deveau says all occupants of the home got out safe and there were no injuries, however the family did lose a pet.
He says the crew effectively knocked down the basement fire.
The Port Maitland fire department assisted.
