All three municipal units have now approved recommendations to get the former YMCA building in Yarmouth back up and running.
Last night, Yarmouth municipal council gave the go ahead.
Earlier this month, the Town of Yarmouth and Municipality of Argyle also approved the recommendations from the Mariners Centre Expansion Steering Committee.
This will also Mariners Centre to operate the facility, as well as develop a business plan and budget.
Warden John Cunningham says he’s hoping to see 275 Main Street re-opened as soon as possible.
“We’re hoping that in September it can re-open, however we’re unsure of that date right now. We’ve given the Mariners Centre the tools and funds to be able to get that packaged together.”
Cunningham says a lot of work remains, but residents of Yarmouth County should feel optimistic.
“We’re working as fast as we can. We don’t want to hinder the process. If there are recommendations coming from the Mariners Centre Expansion Steering Committee, we will move on those as quickly as possible.”
Each council committed $75,000 toward the project.
