The MLA for Argyle-Barrington wants to see better access to dialysis services in his region.
PC Colton LeBlanc says this issue has gone through three health ministers over seven years.
He brought the issue forward yesterday in the legislature to current Health and Wellness Minister Zach Churchill.
“As the minister is well aware, from the southern-most point of our province, ‘The Hawk’, to Yarmouth Regional Hospital is a fair commute. Doing that multiple times a week, in inclement weather, is challenging,” said LeBlanc.
Churchill says the province has invested in expanding dialysis services across the province.
“We do have access to dialysis at Yarmouth Regional Hospital, but we are also looking at other modes of delivering dialysis for those that are further removed,” said Churchill.
LeBlanc asked if the Minister could commit to providing details on how the services are allocated across Nova Scotia.
Churchill said he would provide those details, while noting in-home dialysis options are also available.
