I love going to the movies. It’s one of my favourite things to do, even these days when everyone watches everything at home. It’s for many reasons, but most significantly, it’s a place that demands total immersion – no phone to take your attention away, no dog wanting to go for a walk, nothing but the movie. And the popcorn. Oh the popcorn!
To me there’s nothing like it.
The Local Cineplex opened last week, and I knew that after being closed since March I had to get in and experience the new Christopher Nolan movie Tenent.

When you walk in to the Lobby you are greeted by the manager who gives you an explanation of how things work. You wear a mask until you get to your seat. The seats are separated. I don’t believe there is a capacity for more than 50 in the theatre, and there is a lot of space between the seats. No buying your tickets at a kiosk; instead you wait in line and get to choose from the available assigned seats.
There couldn’t have been more than a dozen people in for the showing; but of course it counts as an early screening of a new movie so that could have been a factor. And I skipped the popcorn this time.
The movie was LOUD. I remember thinking to myself, “Were movies always this loud here?” but I don’t think so. It’s just a loud movie.
So how was it?
I went in completely oblivious to anything substantial about the movie, on purpose. I admire Christopher Nolan and his work, and I wanted to get caught up in it.
It stars John David Washington and Robert Pattinson – who in my mind will forever be known at the guy who was at Dooley’s that time.
What did I think? I’m not sure yet.
It’s in effect not a Science Fiction movie, but a James Bond movie with Science Fiction elements. The action is plentiful and amazing; but often pretty confusing. It’s going to require a second viewing, and I think it’s good enough to warrant that.
It was entertaining, and LOUD, and confusing. That doesn’t make it a 10 out of 10, but it’s a solid 7 and gets me back to the theater. Works for me!
