Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development Zach Churchill has announced 60 new seats at NSCC Akerley Campus in Dartmouth for early childhood education training.
He says the program and the investments they’ve made, has meant new positions must be filled.
“We announced more seats at NSCC for Early Childhood Education and this is a direct response to the demand we’re creating in the early childhood education sector by growing the regulated not-for-profit childcare sector and, of course, the implementation of pre-primary.”
Churchill say the announcement was in response to the growing demand for spots.
“This is the first time this has happened but there’s actually been a wait list to get into Early Childhood Education and this is a direct result of the hundreds of jobs that we’re creating across the province in early childhood education for Pre-Primary and by growing the regulated childcare sector.”
The total investment is $283,000 over the next three years.
Chruchill says the new seats will help reduce the waitlists at NSCC for the program, while also addressing the long-term recruitment challenges.
