The Baseball Canada U13 championships start tomorrow in Repentigny, Quebec.
The Nova Scotia team includes Blake Newell of Plymouth, a member of the Yarmouth Chris Scott Construction Peewee AAA Gateways.
He says he made the team after an invitation to try out.
“They contacted us and we went and we tried out and they picked me to go to the next tryout and I did good there and they picked me to make the team.”
There are ten other teams in the championship. Nova Scotia opens 1pm Atlantic time against Ontario #1.
Newell, a 12 year-old Par-en-Bas Grade 8 student as of next month, will take part Provincials, hosted by the Peewee AAA Gateways, when he returns.
He plays 3rd base, short stop, and pitcher.
The 16 and Under Girls Baseball Nationals start tomorrow in Bedford.
The Nova Scotia team includes 2 local players, Caitlyn Graves of Yarmouth and Elizabeth Gavel from Weymouth.
Nova Scotia won the silver last year.
