As we get older many of us may forget some of the basics of driving.
There’s a driver refresher course for older adults this week in Digby.
Dawn Thomas, the seniors safety coordinator for the town and municipality of Digby says it’s designed to address recent changes that older drivers may not be used to.
“When to drive safely out of rush hour during the daytime. Some of the other stuff we’re having trouble with now is actually the roundabout in Digby. We still have issues going into Conway on the 303 going into the third lane.”
She says they also invite a member of the RCMP’s traffic services division to talk about problems that they encounter.
The course is hosted by Discover Driving, a private company based in Bridgetown.
Thomas says registration for Wednesday’s course in Digby has closed,
What’s really funny, I shared this on Facebook probably a month ago. It was shared over 140 times, it was viewed more than 14,000 times. As of the deadline (Aug.16), I only had 15 people registered but my phone has not stopped ringing this morning (Tuesday).”
The Nova Scotia government funds the program for seniors over 65. But there’s been so much interest that Seniors Safety will cover the cost of those who are under 65 or who have already taken the course.
The course takes place tomorrow (Wed Aug 21) at the Digby Curling Centre from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
