There’s a new top cop in Shelburne.
Sergeant Mike O’Callaghan is the new Detachment Commander for Shelburne RCMP.
While the 20 year veteran’s career has included stops in General Duty policing, Drug Enforcement, and Integrated Border Enforcement, he’s always maintained his home in Shelburne.
“I did some stints outside of here. My son’s raised here, my wife’s here she runs her own business here. I’m in the community. So it’s a win/win I think. I hope I can live up to that.”
Because of his deep roots in the area, O’Callaghan hopes people will feel comfortable approaching him
“As a member of the community, isn’t that the best option? You live here, and your personal life is here and now you have the option and the opportunity to command the policing presence here and to direct it to be reflective of what the community wants.”
He looks forward to working with the local town and municipal councils and encourages people to drop in any time with their policing concerns.
