Don’t mess with the Litter Ladies of Cape Forchu.
They’re on a mission along with the Yarmouth and Area Community Fund to clean a section of Highway 103 between Yarmouth and Tusket a week from today.
They’re challenging any groups, organizations or school classes to help them out, or organize a clean-up in a specific area.
Gert Sweeney, one of the Litter Ladies, says littering continues to be a problem.
“A lot of people throw from their vehicle. If we left that, that garbage ends up in our oceans which provide a livelihood for people here. If end ups in your lake and streams or water supplies, then you have a bigger problem.”
The highway litter cleanup takes place on Saturday April 21, the day before Earth Day.
They are challenging other organizations and groups to clean up other areas.
They also would like volunteers for the highway clean up.
The clean up takes place next Saturday from 9-2.
Registration is at the Home Hardware building on Starrs Road where you can get your litter supply package.
Students or those needing a Certificate of Volunteer hours for resumes or secondary education can request the documentation.
