It was the best Y-Con yet.
Yarmouth’s annual gaming and comic book convention took over Mariners Centre on the weekend.
Gaming coordinator Matthew Hiltz says the turnout was fantastic.
“We had 30 percent more vendors, and it was reflected in our ticket sales, which were up 20 percent. We’re growing at a steady rate, and we can add more events every year,” said Hiltz.
The weekend featured video and board game tournaments, a Cosplay contest and dozens of vendors.
Part of the convention is the Mario Kart invitational on opening night.
The winner was Joseph Falls, and he says it felt great.
“It was exhilarating. It was a beautiful day out there on the race course. I played as Link, always have to choose him. I grew up with an N64, have a little bit of experience,” said Falls.

Falls bested local MLAs Colton LeBlanc of Argyle and Nick Hilton of Yarmouth, along with town councillor Wade Cleveland.
LeBlanc says it was a tough race, but he’s happy to take part.
“It’s great to see so many people from across the province for this event. It’s a pretty big event, and it’s great to be able to host it here in southwest Nova Scotia,” said LeBlanc.
“I practiced on a Nintendo Switch all year for this,” added Hilton, who said it’s amazing to see the support.
There was also an auction on Sunday with proceeds going to Juniper House.
Hiltz says they’re already planning for next year.
