An historic building in Yarmouth needs your votes.
The Sharon Assembly Church is in Canada’s ‘Next Great Save’ competition to win $50,000 for repairs.
The building opened in 1877, and a new board of directors wants to breathe more life into the property.
Deputy Mayor Steve Berry says the building means a lot to the black community, and those who grew up in the south end.
“The hope is to get some funds to fix it up and return it to its former glory, both as an historic site for local black history, as well as a community centre. We need to fix the roof and other areas, hopefully we’ll have more fundraisers and just keep chipping away,” said Berry.
Voting is open at this link until April 17.
