• Dire Straits – May 16, they’ll release a 3-CD expanded edition of their huge 1985 album “Brothers in Arms”. 2 CDs will contain a previously unreleased live recording from the San Antonio stop of the band’s 1985 world tour. The album sold over 30 million copies, and contained the hits ‘Money for Nothing’, ‘So Far Away’ and ‘Walk of Life’.
• Neil Young — has canceled his planned free concert in Ukraine, saying he “could not in good conscience” take his crew and equipment into the country as it’s embroiled in a war with Russia. Earlier this month, he announced that he and the Chrome Hearts would kick off their upcoming “Love Earth” world tour with a free concert in Ukraine, though he didn’t announce a date or location. • The Searchers – The longest-running band in pop history have decided to pack it in after 68 years. The group, which rose to fame in Liverpool as contemporaries of The Beatles, are best known for their 1963 hit ‘Needles and Pins’. They’ll retire following their first-ever appearance at the Glastonbury Festival in June.
• Kiss – has announced plans for their first live performance in 2 years. An e-mail sent to followers says they’ll perform an unmasked live show as part of the Kiss Army Storms Vegas event, which is scheduled for Nov. 14-16 at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. LINK: https://tinyurl.com/25fp4hmr
• Foreigner – has announced a fall Canadian tour without longtime singer Kelly Hansen. Guest vocalist Geordie Brown will fill in on the tour, set to begin Oct. 21 in St. John’s NL, and end Nov. 7 in Kelowna BC. • Metallica – Kirk Hammett told Rolling Stone that he has 767 riffs for the group’s next album. Quote: “New ones, bro. Oh God. It is such a nightmare going through this stuff, too. I can’t do it. And I’m the one responsible for all of it.”
• Eddie Vedder – His new cover of Neil Young’s ‘The Needle and the Damage Done’ has been released. It will appear on the tribute album “Heart of Gold: The Songs of Neil Young (Vol. 1)”, to benefit the Bridge School.
