A local ‘Chase the Ace’ draw is really taking off.
It’s helped raise over $150,000 for the Melbourne Community Centre in Yarmouth County so far.
There are three cards left after Tuesday night’s draw, the winner will get around $115,000 if the ace is picked next week.
Scotty Boudreau with the community centre says the money will go toward repairs to the hall.
“We started on a new roof this past summer, we also need new flooring and windows, and more insulation as the building is a lot to heat over the winter,” said Boudreau.
He says they would have been happy if it only lasted 10 weeks, but getting to this point nearly a year later is amazing.
“Seven of us are on a committee, we have a few other volunteers that help on draw nights every Tuesday. We also have people in the community that will help us with tickets, cutting up three-to-four thousand tickets just so we have enough for each week.”
The most recent draw winner took home a consolation prize of $7,918.
