A disruption in ferry service is a concern to the tourism industry in the Town of Digby.
Bay Ferries says the Fundy Rose will get mandatory maintenance work in Quebec from October 15 until early December.
Mayor Ben Cleveland says there’s never a great time to take it out of service.
“It does kind of end the tourism season. We’re still getting lots of visitors from the U.S. and Central Canada, and many of them do take the ferry,” said the Mayor.
He says it’s also hard on industry, with trucks having to drive around to New Brunswick and back.
“They’re running products to the U.S, markets in Boston, it adds hours to their trip, which means there could be a lay-over. Driving around is about 6 or 7 hours, going across on the ferry is 2 hours.”
Cleveland says the vessel, along with ‘the CAT’ in Yarmouth are important to southwestern Nova Scotia.
MV Fundy Rose will be out of service October 15 until December 3 to perform bi-annual mandatory drydock and refit work. Note the following sailing schedule:
