Nova Scotia’s opposition leader isn’t impressed with the latest budget update.
The province says there’s a deficit of $654 million, that’s over $186 million more than in March of this year.
The Liberals’ Zach Churchill says the province wants to double the population to get more revenue.
“Tim Houston is spending hundreds of millions outside of their own budget on things that aren’t making a difference in our economy or healthcare. Nova Scotians aren’t seeing results from that spending,” said Churchill.
He says the province already has overpopulated schools and hospitals, and a lack of housing.
Finance Minister Allan MacMaster said they’ve invested in healthcare and housing, along with seniors programs and relief for natural disasters.
MacMaster said there’s a softening of tax revenue, and it’s a trend they’re keeping an eye on heading into the next update in December.
He says there is a fiscal plan that remains stable, and as a government they remain committed to fixing healthcare, and doing what’s best for Nova Scotians.
