The province says more people will have access to dialysis treatments, closer to home.
Health Minister Michelle Thompson announced three new units will be constructed at hospitals in Shelburne, Richmond County and Springhill.
They’ll each have six stations, and construction will start after a vendor is selected and a detailed design is complete.
“As our population grows, so too does the need for increased access to life-saving dialysis treatment closer to home. Using a new and innovative construction method, we’re going to
build and open new dialysis units faster,” said Thompson in a release.
The province currently has 18 dialysis units.
The three new units will be at Roseway Hospital in Shelburne, Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston and All Saints Springhill Hospital.
About 900 people are on dialysis in Nova Scotia.
