A short staffed Yarmouth Mariners squad fell 8-2 to Summerside on home ice.
Saturday’s game in front of a near sellout crowd was close until the third period, when the Caps would score five unanswered goals to run away with the game.
Lorenzo Tita and Jared Pitman had the Yarmouth goals, both in the second period. Yarmouth dressed 15 skaters.
It was the first regulation loss for the Mariners this season, who were missing a number of regulars from their lineup.
Defenders Lucas Boisvert and Loic Mburanumwe were sitting due to suspensions, Ethan Hoffe and Nathan Mossey have yet to play this season due to injury.
Goaltender Thomas Fontaine took the loss in goal, he was pulled after the sixth goal for Carter Arnold.
The Mariners are now 2-1-0-1 on the season, Summerside improved to 3-0.
Yarmouth plays on the road next Saturday in Valley and next Monday afternoon at Amherst.
They’ll return home for games October 4th and 5th against Edmundston and Grand Falls, respectively.
