Yarmouth’s art gallery is staying open a while longer.
The Friends of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia Western Branch will continue to host an Acadian art display until October 13.
Earlier this year, the provincial board announced the art gallery would not re-open, citing financial issues.
The local group got special permission from the board in August to host events at the gallery again.
Joann Ranson with the group says the space is important to the community.
“And we’ve had around 1,400 people in since we’ve opened. The community has been really supportive, and it’s exciting,” said Ranson.
She adds she’s optimistic, and they’ll continue to work toward a permanent solution.
“It’s so helpful for so many people in the community, we’ll find a way forward.”
The exhibit from Acadian painter Nelson Surette drew many visitors in through last month’s Congres Mondial Acadien.
