Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says they are taking the work stoppage at CN and CPKC very seriously.
The Prime Minister made a brief comment about the labour situation after visiting a business in Sherbrooke, Quebec, that will be impacted.
He says a prolonged shutdown will be felt across the country
“That’s why we are on this. We’re taking it so seriously,” says Trudeau.
The Prime Minister hinted at the government looking at options but offered no further comment on what they would be.
“We will have more to say shortly on what we’re doing to make sure that the right solution is found quickly for the economy”
On Wednesday, Trudeau supported a solution reached at the negotiating table.
Public Affairs Minister Jean-Yves Duclos says that remains the best solution.
“That’s the fastest way for workers to get back to work and for the economy not to be impacted by what is happening now,” says Duclos.
“That is also the best possible outcome for the appropriate relationship that needs to take place over the years between the unions and the two businesses.”
