Yarmouth’s art gallery on Main Street is ready for an exhibit.
The provincial art gallery board announced earlier this year that the Western Branch would not re-open.
After discussions with the province at the start of July, the Friends of the Art Gallery got approval to host Acadian art displays during the month of August.
Chair JoAnn Ranson says she hopes the community comes out.
“We’re going to celebrate during the Congres Mondial Acadien with everyone in the community. We’re looking forward to the future, one foot in front of the other,” said Ranson.
An event opening for the Nelson Surette art exhibit is already sold out for Saturday, August 3.
Ranson says they’re hoping this builds positive momentum.
“This is our first exhibit, but there are so many amazing artists that deserve to be showcased. We hope to have more chapters. It’s such a positive force for downtown Yarmouth.”
The Lt. Governor is coming on August 15, and more events are planned alongside the exhibit on August 9 and 24.
Ranson says they would love to see people of all ages visit the gallery.
“Our community needs this. It’s a wonderful place to showcase artists and run workshops. I hope that we can continue to work there, but we’ll see what the future holds.”
