We are less than a month away from a week-long congress focusing on Acadian culture.
The Congres Mondial Acadien will take over southwestern Nova Scotia for nine days, starting on August 10.
Banners are up in Yarmouth, Argyle, Clare and Barrington, as tens-of-thousands are expected to take part.
Communications deputy director Trevor Murphy says it’s going to be monumental.
“I’ve taken part in a Congres before, you come out of it a bit changed as an Acadian. It’s important for people to know that you don’t have to be an Acadian or speak French to enjoy these events, it’s for absolutely everyone,” said Murphy.
There will be an Acadian Day concert at the Yarmouth Airport on August 15, it will be televised nationally.
The banners were spearheaded by the Municipality of Argyle and funded in part by the province.
“They are welcome banners to let people know that this is happening and coming up very soon. These have been up since the beginning of July,” added Murphy.
He says the banners will be able to be used for years to come.
The 2024 Congres Mondial Acadien runs from August 10-18.
