The province is encouraged to see a spike in passenger numbers on the Nova Scotia-to-Maine ferry.
According to Bay Ferries, bookings on ‘the CAT’ are up 18 percent compared to this time last year.
Over 23,000 have booked travel on the ferry for 2024.
Minister Greg Morrow, speaking on behalf of Public Works Minister Kim Masland says it’s good to see the increase.
“That being said, we don’t want to get ahead of the broad economic impact study that’s underway on that service, so we’ll wait for that to come through,” said Morrow after Cabinet.
The study is ongoing, and is expected to be ready in the fall.
The economic impact study is poised to shed light on the ferry service’s performance and its contribution to Nova Scotia’s economy.
By examining the value it brings to taxpayers and considering the input from various stakeholders, the government aims to make informed decisions regarding the long-term future of the service.
The province’s contract with Bay Ferries expires at the end of the 2025 sailing season.
