A long-time vision is becoming reality at a Yarmouth County school.
Staff and students of Meadowfields School took part in a groundbreaking ceremony for a new playground.
Principal Pam Deviller says the first of three phases will be ready in September.
“Phase one is bought and paid for. Phase two tender is going out hopefully this week. It’s been easier to have chunks of money as opposed to the entire funding,” said Deviller.
It will include a large structure with wood fiber carpet and an accessible spinner.
The first phase is around $200,000, the Municipality of Yarmouth gave $30,000 and around a dozen committee members have helped with fundraisers
Organizer and physical education teacher Lori MacLeay says they’ve raised $218,000 so far.
“We have some more coming with future announcements. We estimated roughly $350,000 in total, but it could reach $400,000,” said MacLeay.
Future work includes smaller pieces of equipment, pathways, accessible swings, an outdoor classroom, benches and more.
